EMSTEEL’s ESG Policy

EMSTEEL Building Materials PJSC is committed to producing high-quality steel and building materials in compliance with applicable legal and other requirements. The Board of Directors oversees the management of Environmental, Social, and Governance risks.

Our ESG principles—respect, collaboration, inclusivity, integrity, stewardship, and transparency—guide our operations, projects, stakeholder engagement, and reporting.

We aim to improve raw material, energy, and water efficiency, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. We also support CARES Sustainability Construction Scheme, BES 6001, and ResponsibleSteel.

This Policy applies to all EMSTEEL activities, employees, contractors, suppliers, customers, and other stakeholders and will be reviewed periodically.

Key Commitments
Environmental Stewardship (E)

  • Environmental Management: Comply with applicable environmental requirements and ISO 14001, manage natural resources responsibly, assess environmental risks, prevent pollution, and continuously improve environmental performance.
  • Climate and GHG Emissions::Reduce greenhouse gas emissions and pursue net-zero emissions by 2050 through energy efficiency, clean energy, emissions monitoring, and transparent reporting.
  • Energy Management: Improve energy performance through efficient technologies, renewable energy, and energy management practices aligned with ISO 50001.
  • Water and Effluents:: Reduce water consumption, increase recycled-water use, manage effluents responsibly, and apply water management practices aligned with ISO 46001.
  • Circular Economy and Waste: Minimise waste and maximise the reduction, reuse, recycling, and beneficial utilisation of waste and by-products.
  • Environmental Impact and Biodiversity: Assess and minimise environmental, transport, and ecological impacts and apply a strict No-Go Policy for protected and conserved areas.

Social Responsibility (S):

    • Human and Labour Rights: Prevent human and labour rights violations across our operations and value chain through effective policies, procedures, and due diligence.
    • Health & Safety: Protect employees, contractors, and property by eliminating hazards and preventing work-related injuries and illnesses in line with ISO 45001.
    • Equal Opportunity and Diversity: Provide equal opportunities and equal pay for equal work while promoting diversity, inclusion, equity, female empowerment, and diversity at Board and leadership levels.
    • Emiratization: Support the UAE nationalisation agenda through employment, skills development, career progression, and partnerships with educational institutions.
    • Training and Development: Promote continuous learning and provide employees with training, resources, and career-development opportunities.
    • Responsible Supply Chain and Community Impact: Promote responsible sourcing, product quality and innovation, ethical customer relationships, and the responsible management of community impacts.

Governance (G):

  • Anti-Corruption: Maintain zero tolerance for corruption, fraud, and bribery through ethical conduct, transparency, accountability, and effective controls.
  • Fair Competition: Prevent anti-competitive practices and comply with applicable competition laws and fair-market principles.
  • Audit and Internal Control: Maintain effective controls and regular audits to monitor ESG, climate, energy, health, safety, well-being, and related risks and performance.
  • Tax Transparency: Comply with applicable tax laws, maintain transparent reporting, and implement controls to manage tax-related risks.

ESG Risk Management and Implementation

EMSTEEL identifies, assesses, manages, and monitors ESG risks through its Group Risk Management framework. Climate, environmental, biodiversity, human rights, and supply-chain risks are integrated into strategic planning, capital allocation, procurement, and operational decision-making. Implementation is supported by Board-approved ESG and Decarbonization strategies, roadmaps, action plans, targets, and periodic performance reviews.

Public Reporting

EMSTEEL publicly reports relevant ESG and sustainability performance, supported by appropriate data-quality controls. Progress against internal targets is periodically reported to management and the Board and disclosed where applicable, through reports addressing relevant stakeholders.
