Responsible Supply Chain

At EMSTEEL, we believe that achieving real, lasting progress in sustainability requires extending our impact beyond our own operations. That’s why we have launched the Supplier Sustainability Impact Mapping Program—a comprehensive initiative designed to embed environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles across our value chain.

Aligned with globally recognized standards including ISO 14001, ISO 45001, CDP, ResponsibleSteel™, and BES 6001, the program reflects our commitment to responsible sourcing, risk mitigation, and long-term resilience. At its core, it enables us to work collaboratively with suppliers to elevate sustainability performance and drive decarbonization at every tier of our network.

Suppliers are assessed using a structured ESG questionnaire covering nine key areas:

  • Governance & Organizational Management
  • Supply Chain Management
  • Human Rights
  • Employee Well-being
  • Environmental Stewardship (Energy, Water, Waste, GHG, Biodiversity)

This evaluation framework allows us to classify suppliers by tier—Tier 1 (Raw Materials), Tier 2 (Major Service, Spare parts & Equipment Providers), and Tier 3 (General Services)—and tailor engagement based on ESG maturity and risk exposure.

Accelerating Scope 3 Decarbonization and Innovation

Decarbonizing our supply chain is a central pillar of EMSTEEL’s climate strategy. Our Scope 3 decarbonization program embeds sustainability into procurement decisions, upstream emissions tracking, and supplier collaboration. ESG assessments are now embedded into Tier 1 and Tier 2 supplier engagement, with plans to expand across all tiers.

We work closely with suppliers to align on emerging regulations such as the EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and the GHG Protocol. Training and guidance on these topics—alongside ResponsibleSteel™ standards—enable our partners to better understand, measure, and reduce their emissions.

Through platforms like DitchCarbon, we support our suppliers in quantifying and managing their carbon footprint. At the same time, we are prioritizing low-carbon materials, local sourcing, and logistics innovations such as rail transport and electric vehicle pilot programs to reduce emissions throughout the value chain.

Driving Progress with Data and Transparency

To monitor progress and improve decision-making, we will be developing an ESG Supplier Risk Dashboard—a dynamic platform that visualizes supplier ESG performance, risk classification, and the direct impact on Scope 3 emissions. This tool empowers our procurement and ESG teams with real-time insights, enabling timely intervention and strategic alignment.

Leading the Future of Responsible Steelmaking

At EMSTEEL, sustainability is not an add-on; it is embedded across everything we do—from sourcing raw materials to delivering low-carbon steel to our partners. Through our Supplier Sustainability Impact Mapping Program, we are redefining what responsible growth means in the steel industry.

We are proud of the partnerships we’ve built and the progress we’ve made. But we know that the journey is ongoing. As we continue to innovate and raise the bar for sustainability, we invite our suppliers, customers, and stakeholders to join us—to lead the charge toward a resilient, transparent, and low-carbon future for steel.
